Decide what you want from the war
Mouri's ordinary conquest, its challenge event, removing Motonari's curse and unlocking the family bonus are distinct objectives. Write down which of them you are pursuing before removing characters or provinces needed by another event.
The community walkthrough says Mouri cannot be vassalized. Its challenge requires more than five end-of-turn phases of war, more than one remaining province, Teru and Kiku still in its army, and Motonari still cursed. The factions also need an attackable border for the event's war check.
Accept the challenge while it is available
The purple challenge command leads to a special army fight when you accept. Changing the prerequisites before selecting it can make it unavailable. In the reference, accepting or declining the challenge removes the daughters' Important Character protection, which affects subsequent capture plans.
The event fight itself is not an ordinary prisoner farming battle. Losing the all-out challenge causes an immediate Game Over. Save before accepting and prepare a complete army for the encounter. Treat later capture opportunities as separate fights governed by normal rules.
| Goal | Preserve or verify |
|---|---|
| Trigger the challenge | Cursed Motonari, key Mouri commanders and multiple provinces. |
| Recruit the family | Each named commander's own recruitment conditions. |
| Remove the curse | Ryouma, Izumo's dungeon, the Daidaara fight and the confirmation event. |
| Unlock the bonus | All four required commanders available together. |
Remove the curse before the final conquest
The documented recruitment path for uncursed Motonari is:
- Defeat Takuga and recruit Ryouma Sakamoto. Keep her in your army through the required event chain.
- Discover the dungeon in Izumo while Kouhime and Sill are available. Discovery can happen before Ryouma joins.
- While at war with Mouri, select Ask Ryouma about Motonari in an original Mouri/Takuga province where you control at least one territory. It requires either more than five turns of the war or the relevant post-battle Teru marriage-discussion event.
- Reach Izumo's dungeon's seventh floor and defeat Daidaara, then see the following event. You may leave the dungeon afterward.
- Wait for the event on Mouri's turn that explicitly lifts Motonari's curse. Defeating Daidaara alone is not confirmation that the curse has been removed.
Do not finish conquering Mouri while Motonari is still cursed: the reference says the final victory kills him in that state. If the curse has been lifted, the corresponding outcome captures him. This difference is essential if your objective is the family bonus.
Complete the reunion, not just the conquest
The Second Game bonus reference requires uncursed Motonari, Teru, Kiku and Chinu to fight in the same battle. Save after the resulting event. It also warns that Motonari must not already be character-cleared for that reunion.
This is why a plan aimed at clearing every character immediately can conflict with a bonus-unlock plan. Keep a branch save before progressing a clear that would remove your chance to see the family event.
For the difference between a relationship upgrade and a clear, use character clears. For solo-fight preparation during the curse chain, read dungeon battles.
