Version scope: these detailed mechanics and route prerequisites come from classic-game community documentation. Story-route pages contain spoilers. Compare your edition before a route-sensitive choice.

Affection is progress, not a universal unlock
The interface uses relationship stages such as Normal, Trust and Love, with progress toward the next conversation. The community mechanics page documents the upgrade menu at seven affection, including an option to raise personal level. That does not mean every commander clears by choosing the same upgrade.
The character-clear reference gives individual sequences and exceptions. Ordinary conversations, purple events, party members and story state can all matter. Follow the entry for the actual commander rather than applying a generic heroine checklist to everyone.
Keep these goals separate
| Goal | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Gain relationship progress | The conversation or item changed the intended character's progress. |
| Open an upgrade | The required conversation is available at the displayed stage. |
| Complete a character clear | The character-specific sequence is finished. |
| Retain clear points | The commander remains in the end-game roster. |
The reference records two score points for a cleared character retained at the end. A named character's record can remain in Game Progress Info after the unit leaves, but that record is not the same as retaining their score contribution in your present campaign.
Watch for competing events
A conversation at the expected affection value can produce a different event if another event has priority. If the guide's next step did not happen, note which event played instead and recheck the required stage. Do not consume a stack of relationship items without understanding the mismatch.
Some event chains conflict. Fuuka's Orochi branch, for example, trades away her ordinary clear path. Save before a choice that changes a character's future options.
Plan by character and route
Write down the commander, current relationship stage, missing event and route dependency. This is more useful than a single target number. When a route removes a relevant character, later relationship progress cannot repair a prerequisite that is no longer possible.
See Orochi's unlock for a concrete trade-off, or repeat-play planning for score and bonus context.
