The event chain comes before the recruit

The Uesugi walkthrough documents an automatic victory when Rance first faces Kenshin after war begins. That meeting is part of the chain leading through Ai's concern, Kenshin's dating attempt and her return from mountain training.

The training return requires Uesugi to have exactly one province. Night raids can retake territory before the coup, so repeatedly attacking without progressing the event chain may not resolve the situation.

Save before the messenger's offer

When the coup occurs, the messenger offers Kenshin in exchange for peace. In the reference, accepting makes Uesugi a vassal; it does not produce the normal Kenshin recruitment outcome. Rejecting the deal allows the conquest-and-rescue path.

The guide describes a five-turn deadline, with a timing caveat depending on whether your attack triggered Uesugi's turn. Do not treat that as five unrestricted turns remaining. Prepare to finish the conquest immediately after rejecting the offer and retain a save from before the choice.

Recruit in order

Once Uesugi has been conquered in time, Kenshin can join through the Sado command or a start-of-turn event. Ai requires Kenshin to be recruited first. Leave roster and NP room rather than assuming the victory itself has completed both recruitments.

The first-campaign interaction between Houjou, Uesugi and Takeda can change who controls the provinces. Check the map before committing to another northern war if Kenshin is your goal.

Recruitment is not route entry

Having Kenshin is only part of the Kenshin IF-route conditions. Keep her rescue campaign and the later picnic requirements separate. For a general capacity problem, use national power.
