Start with a small, clear objective
Treat your first campaign as a sequence of decisions you can explain. Before selecting a command, write down the one thing you want to achieve this turn: a territory, a recruit, or a story objective. This is our planning recommendation, rather than a prescribed speedrun opening.
The official game description combines expansion, army management and story choices. An army victory is therefore only one part of your plan. Give available events the same attention you give the next target on the map.
Build a save routine
The legacy walkthrough by nalmar recommends saves around turns and risky attacks. Our suggested routine is to keep separate campaign, turn-start and decision saves. Use descriptive names when the game allows it, or keep a short note of which slot serves each purpose.
| Before you commit | What to check | Why we recommend it |
|---|---|---|
| Spend an action | Does this advance today's goal? | Avoid losing track of optional detours. |
| Attack a new front | What will handle a counterattack? | Think about the next response as well as this fight. |
| Recruit | What job will this unit fill? | Make the roster easier to manage. |
| End the turn | Is there an unfinished event you care about? | Keep a record before the situation changes. |
Learn a repeatable turn plan
- Read the current objective and inspect your position.
- Choose a single priority; list optional actions separately.
- Check the army and resources needed for that priority.
- Save, carry out the plan, and compare the result with your expectation.
- Before ending the turn, note what you need to check next.
Do not restart simply because your campaign differs from a guide's date. First decide whether you missed a required event, lost a relevant unit, or merely used a different sequence. A dated walkthrough can be useful without being a universal schedule.
Use the right walkthrough section
nalmar explicitly separates first-time and later playthroughs. Follow that distinction: a repeat-game opening may rely on options a fresh save does not have. This site has not played the Steam build, and legacy instructions are labeled accordingly.
Continue with combat and resources for the pre-battle checklist, or the first-clear route guide when you want campaign orientation.
